CBC officially goes insane

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

...ok, imagine that our Canadian PUBLIC broacaster would dump an internationally-respected flagship news show for an American Idol look-alike imported from the U.S.

Now stop imagining and, if you're in the eastern time zone, just watch it happen. The National will surely lose core audience members as they opt for - well, virtually anything else instead - but hey, at least we'll have wanna-be teenage stars tuning in, soaking up all that brilliant American pop culture. And then those young'uns will be CBC converts! Hey, they might not even know they're watching The National when it returns in the fall!

Way to go CBC! Great plan! Somebody bring Robert Rabinovitch the champagne bottle!

Then hit him with it.

K, I admit I never watch the cbc unless nhl our football is on. I watch when I'm with you and Matt at his place. He was saying in the article we want to be creative.
Come up with something orginal our do known of you have a brain. Here are some show's I would watch if the cbc started them. Home show, agent taking people to different homes around Canada for them to buy. I would love if they put forget what it's called. Car show they have on the BBC here on the main cbc network. Love the home show's witch they have on British tv, the first idea. Last one would be people come on the show and take control of army's. Have a battle against computer. That's another British show. Last one show are past(battles, big event's). K that's another British show but I would watch all of those.
take care

I heard this news this morning and am extremely DISTURBED. I understand bumping it back for the Olympics or Stanley Cup playoffs, since there's Canadian pride and spirit involved with both. But for a talent show? A pop talent show??? WHAT?????!!!!

Besides "The Simpsons", a few BBC shows, and some movies, I can't even think of anything non-Canadian that the CBC airs!

I am actually a fan of some reality shows, and I wouldn't be opposed to the network coming up with something homegrown (I mean, they did the hockey reality series "Making the Cut", where my cousin was one of the 6 "drafted" winners). But importing an American reality series? People don't want that on their national broadcaster!
